How I Get Digital Movies for FREE or Very Cheap

I love watching movies but I do not like paying the high prices for dvds or blu-rays. Did you know that you can get digital movies for much less than hard copies and sometimes even FREE.  Plus digital movies are better, here’s why:

  • You can watch them anywhere you have an internet connection
  • They never get scratched or broken
  • You can watch on almost any device
  • You will never lose them
  • They are cheaper

Let me show you how to build an online movie collection for FREE or very cheap!

Storing your Movies

First of all, you will need an account to store your movies.  By far the most popular place is VUDU.  Vudu is the largest digital movie database and is free to use as a library. Many of you probably already have a vudu account.  To open a Vudu account, visit Vudu.com or click here.

After you have an account, you can start acquiring movie codes to redeem.  When you enter a code, you then own the movie and you can watch it as much as you want with no ads or commercials.  You can also download it to your pc or phone to watch later.

Pro Tip: Another cool site is Movies Anywhere.  Movies anywhere lets you connect all your accounts such as  iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, Xfinity, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV & FandangoNOW and see all your movies in one place.

Where to Get Movie Codes

There are tons of places to get movie codes.  Let me start with the free ways first.

Get Free Digital Movie Codes on Listia

Listia is a marketplace where can sell things for free.  Everything is traded for credits and no money ever is involved.  You can either sell your old stuff to get ink credits, or you can watch videos, complete surveys or offers to get credits.  You’ll get 100 XNK just for signing up.

If you sell your old items on Lista, you can easily build up ink credits.  If you don’t want to pay the shipping cost of sending an item to someone, you can also charge the winning bidder for shipping fees if you connect a paypal account.

Once you have some ink credits, search listia for “movie codes” or “vudu codes” to get movies to add to your collection.

It is really easy to build up credits on Listia and they have many movies available.  You could realistically build up a large movie collection without spending any money if you put in the time.

You can sign up at Listia here

Cheap Movies at Code Sites

Another way of getting movies on the cheap is at code sites.  There are a couple sites out there that search around for the cheapest prices out there that I use.

  1. Ultraviolet Movie Cinema

To use the site, all you do is go here. In the searchbox, enter the title of the movie your looking for and click on it”s name.

Then it will display all the sites that have the movie in stock and the prices. You can then purchase the movie and add the code to vudu and you will then own the movie forever.  If you rent movies, your usually paying around $5 a rental…. so why not pay $5 and own it so you can watch it again one day.

Another site I use to compare prices is UVSpider which works the same way.

There are also tons of code sites that sell codes.  I would stick to the ones that offer instant delivery.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Cheap Movies at Dollar Stores/ Walmart

Cheap movies are popping up at discount stores like Dollar Tree for only $1!  You will want to look for movies that say they have the Digital version included with the UV symbol like the one pictured below.

You can then open the movie and get the paper with the code add the digital movie to your collection.  Then sell the physical movie or put it on Listia for a profit!

You can also looks for codes at places like Flea Markets, Goodwill, Yard sales, etc.  Many people don’t know what these codes are for so always check in the cases when you see movies for sale.

Free Movies Using VUDU Credits

Another way to get FREE and cheap movies is by using Vudu credits.  You get them through various promotions that Vudu offers on retail products, usually at Walmart stores.  They sometimes offer promos online with a FREE $5 credit.  They have also been offering credits when you watch free movies on their site.

Once you score some Vudu credits, you can use them to buy movies on Vudu.com.  They have sales often and sell movies for $5 or less so you can always find a deal to use them on.

VUDU Disc to Digital

If you have a bunch of old DVD and blu-ray movies laying around.  You can also convert them to digital with the Vudu app.  All you need to do is download the app and scan your movies.  For $2-$5 to convert them to digital SD or HDX.  Once you convert them to digital, you can sell them or put them on Listia!

About codes

Here is some info you will need to know when looking for codes.

Any movie that comes with a digital code will have one of these papers inside with the ‘code”

If you get a code online, they usually send you code or the image like shown above.  You can then go to the redeem page on Vudu to enter it to get your movie.

Comes come in different formats: SD, HDX, and 4K

  • SD means standard definition (not HD)
  • HDX is high definiation
  • 4K or UHD is 4K resolution for 4K tvs

I have a 4K tv but I usually get HD codes because they are cheaper.

Disney, 4K, and new movies usually cost more.  When movies are newly released, they usually cost more.  If you wait a few weeks the demand will die down and they become cheaper.  Older movies can become really cheap, like a $1.

For Apple Users, you can also buy or look for iTunes codes. If you connect your vudu and iTunes accounts with Movies Anywhere, all your iTunes movies will also appear in your Vudu account.
